Unveiled during Milan Design Week 2024, TUBO marked the official launch of elleemme studio’s first product drop: a limited edition of 100 pieces that reinterprets the ashtray as an object of contemporary design.
The launch took place inside a temporary art gallery set up in a former tailor’s workshop, a raw and intimate space transformed for the occasion. The event was more than a simple product release: it became a hybrid moment of design, art and music. Alongside the handover of the pre-ordered TUBO pieces, the space hosted an exhibition of graphic works created specifically for the launch, as well as a curated selection of furniture and design objects by Chroma.
The atmosphere was completed by a live set from Zegae wsg BEPP, blending experimental sounds and electronic rhythms into the physical space.
Designed by Ludovico Basharzad M. and Marco Tedesco of elleemmestudio, TUBO draws inspiration from Bruno Munari’s iconic 1950s ashtray. The design replaces the sharp-edged geometry of Munari’s cube with the softness of a pure cylinder, a gesture that shifts from rigidity to openness. Made of matte resin and mirrored steel, TUBO balances tactile warmth with industrial clarity.
Though it begins as an ashtray, TUBO is open to reinterpretation: a container, a presence, a sculptural object. This first drop celebrates the intersection of memory and reinvention, form and function, a playful but precise statement of elleemmestudio’s approach to contemporary design.
TUBO è la reinterpretazione in chiave contemporanea di forme e materiali utilizzate dai protagonisti del design del secolo scorso, per un oggetto di uso comune quale un posacenere.
TUBO è ribelle, un affronto a ciò che è definito classico. TUBO non vuole annullare Cubo, celebre icona del design italiano, si intende posizionare ambiziosamente al suo fianco. TUBO è una scocca cilindrica aperta su un lato ed una lamiera specchiata inserita al suo interno.
In un mondo che ha più bisogno di curve che di spigoli, TUBO si afferma come oggetto di design contemporaneo.
Il drop di TUBO è avvenuto il 17 aprile, in occasione della MDW24, durante l’opening della esposizione TUBO+SANNITICO in collaborazione con Chroma.
